MEET THE TEAM
Glen Bland is a Lexington, KY native who still resides in the area. He began his career in the thoroughbred industry in 1985, working with yearlings. In his younger years, he had the privilege to work on a number of prestigious thoroughbred farms such as Rogacre Farm, Pillar Stud, Gainesway Farm, Payson Stud, and Castleview Farm.
While always maintaining his passion for thoroughbreds, Glen left the industry in 1987 to start his career with Johnson Controls. In the mid-90s, he founded G. Bland Co., which he grew to serve central Kentucky. Later, he returned to Johnson Controls, where he is still employed today. Glen has three adult children and eight grandchildren.
In the summer of 2011, Glen and his son Hayden decided to reenter the horse racing business by joining their first syndicate, Flying G Racing, LLC. As part-owners of multiple horses, they were thrilled to be part of the industry they loved. Glen then had an opportunity to purchase a stake in Tramore Bay, bred by Clearsky Farm, with Barry Robinette and others.
In 2019, Glen met trainer Anthony Stephen, and the two quickly became close friends. Together with Justin Cheatham and Dr. Karla Stephen, they purchased Afleet Moment, a thoroughbred still running today. They refer to themselves as 'Team Horse' and are proud to be involved in the industry they love. As a team, they hope to continue investing in and supporting thoroughbred racing for years to come.
Glen is a member of the Thoroughbred Club of America in Lexington, KY.
GLEN BLAND
Anthony Stephen has been racing and training Thoroughbreds his whole life. He joined the Jockey School in Trinidad at 17 and graduated in 1991. There, he learned true horsemanship, including caring for the horses in every way - from grooming, feeding, cleaning stalls, cutting hay, shoeing to breaking babies, galloping, and breezing. He was lucky to connect with a trainer, Eric Colt Durant, who believed in Anthony enough to make him his stable jockey.
This opportunity gave Anthony experiences he had only dreamed of. Quickly, Anthony became the leading rider in his home country of Trinidad and was offered a contract in Macau. This opportunity was his ticket to the thoroughbred horse racing world. Anthony took the contract with his trainer's blessing, worked in Macau, and stayed there for seven years.
Anthony has traveled worldwide racing as a jockey (Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, Macau, India, Canada, Qatar and the USA). After moving to Kentucky in 2010, Anthony met his wife, Dr. Karla Stephen. Shortly after, they purchased a farm in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Anthony is living his dream as a thoroughbred trainer in the Horse Capital of the World.
Dr. Karla Stephens owns and operates The Spa at Wellington.
